About the project

TAAQ NIGHT CONCERT  "non project"

This endeavor wasn't a formal project, but rather an exploration into phone photography due to the restrictions on DSLRs at the event. This collection, though informally termed a "non-project," showcases a series of photographs that I deemed exceptional enough to make the final cut.

Black and White

These were a set of experimental "black and white" shots using certain settings in a third-party camera app for the phone.

The Photograph's Statement

Also Known As "The Artist's Statement"

Rock Concert Photography: A Passionate Pursuit

Rock concerts are among my favorite events, and I never miss a chance to attend when a favorite artist or band performs in my city. While I usually capture moments purely for memory's sake, my approach evolved after acquiring a DSLR and completing a photography course. This newfound knowledge and equipment have heightened my intent and precision in capturing shots. During a recent concert, I employed my phone's RAW setting to take photos.

Thermal and a Quarter (TAAQ)

Concert photography, especially for rock and similar genres, has been extensively explored. This project aims to document the intricate process behind album cover art for artists and bands, as well as the journeys of photographers who tour with them. Despite the widespread coverage of rock concerts by renowned photographers, my goal was to delve deeper into the behind-the-scenes elements. With TAAQ, a Bangalore-based band known for touring globally and opening for larger bands, I saw an opportunity to capture their local performances. My hope is that TAAQ appreciates these images and considers a partnership. Through my lens, I aim to capture the unwavering energy and dedication that the band and crew bring to every show, regardless of their fame.

Capturing Memories and Enhancing Skills

The primary objective of this series is to preserve memories and enrich my work portfolio with a more refined sense of photography. Concert photography is challenging without a media pass, as some venues restrict access to hired photographers or those brought by the artist. Despite these challenges, I persevered.

Photographic Journey in Bangalore

I conducted this shoot at the Hard Rock Cafe in Bangalore, my home city. The venue's strict photography rules meant I had to rely on my smartphone, as professional-grade or point-and-shoot cameras were not permitted. Using a Google Pixel 5 with built-in wide-angle and telephoto lenses, I applied as many photography principles as possible and instinctively captured what felt right. Post-processing in Adobe Lightroom allowed me to achieve a vintage effect, ensuring the photos felt cohesive as a set.

Side note: "TAAQ" stands for "Thermal and a Quarter."
